Dubois-kierstede-house (Saugerties Historical Society)Bordered by the Hudson and the Catskills, Saugerties is a gorgeous getaway that has much to offer.

Established in the 17th century, Saugerties has a long history.  It was purchased from a Native American chief and thrived after it was established, becoming a leading producer of tar and turpentine.  It was sacked by the British during the American Revolution and much of it was destroyed.  It had one of the largest water powered industries in the world during the 19th century.

Though the town is very quiet, there is plenty of things to do  in Saugerties, and it is the perfect place to come and relax.

Stroll through its delightful historic streets and take in its charming shops and restaurants, or simply relax at your hotel and enjoy the peaceful tranquility.

Saugerties is surrounded by great camping!  If a peaceful night in the woods sounds rejuvenating to you, then a stop at the Saugerties/Woodstock KOA is in order.  Sleep surrounded by nature and the beauty of the Catskills while not giving up the amenities to which we’ve all grown accustomed.

Along with great camping, Saugerties has some truly wonderful and unique places to stay.  Stay in gorgeous boutique hotels and bed and breakfasts and will cater to your every need, allowing you to have the ultimate relaxing vacation.  Saugerties’ most unique accommodation, though, is its historic lighthouse.  Stay in the former keeper’s quarters and get a taste for what life was like living the lighthouse, with antiques, gorgeous views of the Hudson, and a wonderfully secluded, intimate feel.

Some of Saugerties’ hotels, such as Diamond Mills have fantastic, award winning restaurants.  However, there are plenty of other amazing places to eat in Saugerties.  Allow your culinary vacation to be as relaxing, unique and entertaining as the rest of your vacation when you dine at one of Saugerties’ fantastic establishments.  Try food from all the around the world without leaving your seat, or have exceptional local craft beer or wine paired with an equally exceptional meal prepared from ingredients from local farms.  It’s all possible in Saugerties.

Saugerties is the perfect place to escape from the city and relax.
