Opened in the summer of 2012, The Good Bite Kitchen is a hidden gem in Lake Placid.   This friendly, casual restaurant is small, and strolling down Main Street you might just miss it if you’re not paying attention.  However, it is easily one of the best restaurants in Lake Placid.  Trip Advisor rates it as the number one restaurant in the village.

This restaurant is very small and cozy, offering only 8 seats at their counter, and limited seating outdoors.  Many orders are placed to go, but if your group is small it’s a fun place to sit and people watch.   Lunch is served daily Tuesday through Saturday.  The menu changes each day, based on what is seasonally and locally available.  It’s displayed on butcher paper just inside the front door, and is usually updated daily on their Facebook page.

Their fresh, seasonal lunch menu typically features hand pies, dips served with house made pita bread, stews and soups, quiches, assorted baked goods, and salads, including their famous “house salad”.  The house salad features roasted red peppers, avocado, pine nuts, and smoked Gouda, drizzled with a maple chipotle vinaigrette, though it may change depending on what day you go.  Its a unique yet perfectly executed blend of flavors and textures that is both hearty and healthy.  They also serve several house made drinks, including the smoothie of the day, spiced cider, and teas.

Many menu items are vegan or gluten free friendly, or can be made to accommodate this dietary restrictions.  However, you certainly don’t have to be vegetarian, vegan, or gluten free to enjoy this restaurant.  Depending on when you go, you’ll get to try delicious concoctions like hearty vegetarian chili and cornbread, amazing sweet potato and broccoli rabe gribiche, or Thai chickpea soup!  The menu is perfectly thought out and the chef/owner is constantly raising the bar for perfection. If you’re visiting Lake Placid this might just become your favorite spot, and if you’re local you might just find it becoming a weekly habit.
