The Olympic Jumping Complex is a piece of Lake Placid’s Olympic history that is well worth a visit. It continues to be used as an Olympic training site, where many local Olympic hopefuls train to have a shot at making it to the games.
This is absolutely the place to go if you’re searching for amazing views of the Adirondacks. Take a chairlift ride up to the top of the hill, which provides gorgeous views of your surroundings. On a clear day you can see for miles!
At the top of the hill, you’ll take an elevator ride to the observation room of the K-120m ski jump. You won’t find more breathtaking views anywhere else! You’ll see amazing panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, trees, and lakes, and informative signs will help you identify anything that you’re curious about.
In one direction you’ll see aerialists kicking off Lake Placid Freestyle Hill in a flurry of twists, and turns that defy gravity. You might even catch a ski jump competition!
While the views are spectacular, and undoubtedly the highlight, one of the most amazing things you’ll notice is just how large the ski jumps are. Television definitely does not do them justice. You’ll gain a new appreciation for how brave these athletes must be to take a ride up to the top of the jump and then ski down!
In winter be sure to bring some skis with you! Brave skiers can try their hand at the 20m jump with a coached jump.
The Ski Jump Complex is just one of many Olympic Sites in Lake Placid. If you plan to visit multiple Olympic Sites, such as the Olympic Center, and the Olympic Sports Complex, consider purchasing an Olympic Sites Passport.
