Bretton_Woods_ResortBretton Woods is an excellent place to go to be surrounded by nature, and many of its great attractions feature the natural word.  Explore New Hampshire through state parks, ski resorts, and other attractions that are just amazing for outdoor recreation.

Betton Woods’s most popular attraction is undoubtedly the Bretton Woods Mountain Resort.  Featuring both Alpine and Nordic skiing trails, as well as several terrain parks, making it the perfect destination for just about any type of winter recreation that you prefer. It also features many beginner and intermediate runs, making it ideal for families and casual skiers. There are plenty of advanced and expert runs for more experienced skier too.  It is also open for night skiing!

While at the Mountain Resort, be sure to check out their Canapy Tours!  You may have gone zip lining before, but this will blow every other experience out of the water! Descend over 1,000 feet of elevation via a series of zip lines and platforms sitting high above the trees.  Your guides will tell you all about the surrounding area and its natural history, the local flora and fauna, and local lore.  Tours are available for groups as large as eight.

Crawford Notch State Park is another popular destination.  It is not staffed during winter, as it is the off season, however it is open throughout the year unless posted otherwise.  It offers 5,775 acres of hiking trails, waterfalls, and wildlife viewing, as well as spectacular views of the mountains.  Because the park is not staffed, visiting the park is free, however it is recommended that visitors be well aware of their surroundings and maintain proper equipment use to ensure safety.

If you love snowmobiling or have always wanted to try it out, check out Northern Extremes where you can either rent a snowmobile or book tours taking you around the White Mountains.  Guides will not only help you learn your way around a snowmobile, they will also teach you about the local environment and point out lots of interesting facts that the casual observer may not notice.

The Mount Washington Cog Railway is one of the attractions in Bretton Woods that has been drawing tourists for over a century.  It’s a must see for any train buff.  In snowy conditions, the train does not ascend to the summit, however, there are still rides up the mountain and it stops partway to allow guests to get out and take in the great view.  The Cog also offers a special ski train  in winter, on the western side of Mount Washington, allowing you to take the train up and ski down!
