Things to Do in Lake Placid

Olympic_Bobsled_Run_Lake_PlacidAutumn is an excellent time to visit Lake Placid! Not only can you take in all the beauty of the Adirondacks, but you can see it in the autumn when the colors are changing and the mountains are covered in gorgeous hues of yellow, orange and red.  Lake Placid also has some great fall activities.

This weekend Whiteface Mountain is hosting the second annual Lake Placid Brewfest.   Sample brews from across the country, including California favorites like Stone Brewing Co., and Firestone Walker, Maine’s Allagash Brewing Company, and even Canadian brewing experts Unibroue Brewery Chambly, and something from everywhere in between.  You’ll even get to try a few brews that you won’t see anywhere else from local breweries like Blue Line Brewery based in Saranac Lake, Great Adirondack Brewing Company, based in Lake Placid, and Lake Placid Pub & Brewery.  Your ticket gets you plenty of tasters and a commemorative tasting glass!

Whiteface is also hosting the Flaming Leaves Festival this weekend.  This two day festival celebrates the glory of autumn with good, old fashioned family fun! Come watch the nation’s top competitive ski jumpers compete! Listen to live blues music while enjoy great, fresh barbecue and enjoying tons of games and competitions.  Stop by the craft fair and tie dye a t-shirt! And of course, make sure to make it up to the top of the ski jump so that you can get a peek the beautiful foliage that gives this festival its name! The view from the top of the jumps is truly awesome.

Since Lake Placid is famous for its Olympic history, visiting the Olympic sites is a fun thing to do.  A great way to do this is to get an Olympic Sites Passport. This will give you access to all the sites and attractions as well as some discounts on other activities. That includes entry to the museum, a skate on the Miracle on Ice rink in winter, a ride down the bobsled run, and more!

The Skeleton Experience  at Whiteface is like sledding on steroids.  Flying down the track at 30 miles an hour is an unforgettable experience, especially when you’re doing it head first!

4X4 Alpine Epxeditions is like taking a safari through the Adirondacks.  Enjoy a private tour with you and four other friends through Adirondack mountain roads where your tour guide will explain the history of Whiteface and Lake Placid and tailor the tour specifically to you and your needs.  See remote areas of Whiteface Mountain that few people ever see and breathtaking views you’ll never forget.
